Colorado Quandary is based on a painting by Maria Long; the painting depicts the dilemma of choosing between practicing music indoors and enjoying nature outdoors. Frantic, fast-paced practice music contrasts with lyrical “outdoors” music. The two kinds of music, and two passions, battle it out with neither emerging victorious in the end. The title is also a play on words, referencing the famous Quandary Peak in Colorado.
