PASTISTIO (2016) - for flute, violin, cello, percussion

Premiere: Cadillac Moon reading session, Rice University, Houston, TX, January 22, 2016

Duration:  ca. 9 min

Program Note:

Pastistio is a Greek pasta pie, the source of the term “pastiche,” which is an artistic work referencing one or more styles or periods of art. In this piece, I decided to create my own pastiche pasta pie in a more figurative sense, fittingly referencing the Spaghetti Western music of Ennio Morricone, in particular his famous theme from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I “digest” this theme into the work, incorporating my own personal influences alongside with fragments and ghosted manipulations of the main ocarina theme from the film.
